Thing 22--mashups

I browsed the different examples given and really enjoyed framer the most. You can put different kinds of picture frames around your picture. there's one with a cancelled postage stamp frame. The most striking to me was the autumn leaves one.

Thing21---FLICKR and tagging

I think FLICKR is different from regular social tagging in that it can be used for a business to promote its' serviceslike a library. I saw where a photography studio was advertising its' company. There was a lot of information about the photographs and hours. The library ones I viewed showed picturs of buildings being built, renovations, a history of a library can be created. Again, on the informational side there were photos of new fiction, new nonfiction, new dvds, teen activities, speakers, services offered to the community. it's not just here are my pictures from my vacation, etc.

I saw a FLICKR discussion where people were discussing new self-publishing techniques. people can respond to the photos or information given.
Tagging allows people to locate pictures more quickly. You can find pictures by subject, genre, group, etc. You can type in the words like paintings, live music, location, computer-generated, etc. You can ask if the works can be borrowed for a project you are working on. You can assign up to 75 tags to a photo. Other people can assign tags to your work if you want.

Thing20--Flickr

I really enjoyed viewing pictures that I was interested in. I searched flowers and chihuahuas. I saw where some of the photos are open to the public and some were not. I do not have a FLickr account but am thinking of getting one so I can make some stamps of my pups. I viewed the common license options if I were to copyright my photos. Here is one chih photo I liked.
I have 2 links. tamara had to help me and fan me with a paper to cool me down!!!!!!!

Thing 19- Blog Directory

Well as for usefulness some of the blogs are of no interest to me. I'm amazed at what people have created blogs about. however, I did enjoy the yelp.com which is a travel site. I enjoyed learning about places i'd like to visit The comments were interesting. Some of the blogs I'd have to login to comment. Instantbull.com was good for stock market 'instant' news. Wayfaring.com was good for some maps. The library can have many useful ones for different customer interests.

Thing 18- technorati

I really was not impressed with some of the most popular blog hits. They were sensationalistic. Some of the political info was good. But i was not really interested

Thing 17

Tagging could be a great tool for working on a collaborative project. You could begin collecting information for others to view and place keywords for specific parts of the information. Then the other team memebers can add info. as they find it.

I can also see how this would be good to just 'house' my favorite bookmarks.

Thing 15--should VBPL have a MYSPACE account

Yes, we should. it would put our mission out there for the teens--- a safe place to answer their questions and view our teen activites. maybe we could keep some of the kids in school. We are no longer just about books.

Thing 16-social networking/MYSPACE

Well, it looks fairly easy to set a MYSPACE account up. I still do not want to have one of my own. Before I read the articles about it, I really didn't see a need to have one. but now i feel strongly that a library should market itself in this manner. We have to be relevant to the people or no one will pay any attention. Our presene has to serve a need like homework help, meaningful web sites, teen activities that are popular. There has to be dedicated staff to maintaining the site. I think MYSPACE is popular because of the anonymous feature. i can use a different fascade when i log on.

Thing9--news feeds

There are a zillion of these. I just subscribed to news and weather ones. They are multiplying .
Will they go away on their own.

Thing 5--thoughts about learning 2.0

I've discussed this process with 4 different staff members. We're all rather confused about what to post and making an entry in the right place. The vocabulary I'm learning is interesting. But i wish i had more off the desk time to work on this.

Thing 14--VBPL Reader's Advisory

Wow, I kind of enjoyed it. I could be anonymous. I was able to contribute to a team project.
I also got to see what other people wrote.

Thing 13--Wikis

Well, i like the easy format of the wiki. Anyone can contribute to a wiki. However, if i had one , I'd like the control. I think the Adult Summer Reading Program could have people write reviews on a wiki instead of turning them in on paper.it would save paper to have our pathfinders on a wiki that could be printed out. Even telling the public about new resources would be another way of using wikis.

Thing 12-IM as a good mix with reference

Well, it has its' pros and cons. It's good for short, quick, straight-forward questions. These would be Do you have x book/ or Do you have word processing at your library? But when a customer has a more in-depth question concerning a research paper, i feel i need to tell them to come in or call us. Because the dialog has to be kept short, the regular interview questions cannot be sufficiently asked.

Thing 10-RSS

Hi everyone,
I'm having so much fun discovering new technologies. I like RSS because it is so timely. I can get the latest news and information on award winning books.

Thing 11 - IM and Libraries

The library has been great by moving ahead with IM. Because I'm so small. I sit on a pillow to reach the desk and telephone when i IM customers. They appreciate hearing from a dog. I tell them what it is like from my world. They ask me questions about how to take care of their pets. The communication is very quick so my little paws must type fast. Sometimes i miss a key. People seem to like the convenience of getting a real person--uh dog to talk to.

thing 2

This really my first post 11/29/2007. I really view problems as mountains to climb rather than as challenges. Maybe if i just 'go with the flow' it will be easier. Being a small chihuahua createssome obstacles because i'm not noticed by lots of people.
